Minding the Menu

You can make meals out healthier by carefully reading the menu. Foods that are baked, broiled, grilled, poached, roasted, steamed or stir-fried are generally healthier choices, says the National Women's Health Information Center. Remember that you can usually take a portion of your food home to enjoy later. Other tips: Get sauces or dressings on the side; order low-fat or nonfat milk; choose fresh fruit for dessert instead of something sugary and high fat; eat slowly, allowing your brain time to register that you are full.
